Wedding gifts … Be unique!
It is Wedding Season yet again (in sunny South Africa at least), and the headache of finding the perfect wedding gift is a big one, especially on a limited budget. Instead of the normal drying cloths and teaspoons, why not be a bit more creative?
How about having a custom designed cutting board (either from wood or Plexiglass) onto which you can engrave the names of the happy couple. I prefer the Plexiglass option, as you can have a full design engraved in reverse on the bottom of the cutting board, which is then visible from the top while you chop away at those onions! Yes, the Plexiglass will mark with extended use, but it is the thought that counts, is it not? And then, it could make a beautiful kitchen decoration instead of a chopping block, and the happy couple can be reminded of your originality at every cooking episode.
Ok, so having an engraved chopping block is not the most practical of gift ideas, but you must admit it has made you think about that elusive “perfect” gift. How about having a perspex mirror made for the newly weds commemorating their day? Two colours are available – the traditional “silver” mirror or “gold” mirror. Laser engraving on the reverse side, you can create any design to show through on the mirror side – you don’t need to stop at the traditional “mirror on the wall” idea; what about a set of coasters, or placemats or even designing a tile mosaic for a bathroom or entrance area. The possibilities are as endless as your imagination. Engrave a photograph of each of the closest family members on a set of coasters, or as a tile; the perfect heirloom for the couple to decorate their new home with.
Chances are it is YOUR wedding you are planning, and you are looking for something to give your guests to remember the occasion by. How about a Perspex mirror coaster / swizzle stick combination engraved with a monogram of you and your betrothed’s initials? Not only will it add that touch of glamour and glitz to the occasion, but will find pride of place in your guests trove of memories. If you have the budget, you can even have the placemats made out of Perspex mirror and include that as a part of the gift set!
